For years, my little sister has been telling me I just had to get to McKay Books in Chattanooga, Tn. McKay's is a used bookstore with five locations in Tennessee and North Carolina and based on her description I knew that I would need lots of time for exploration and discovery. I had 90 minutes to kill, so I wandered into this literary wonderland and rows upon rows of word goodness made my heart race. I broke into a sweat. I was going to need at least half a day to scale this treasure trove. To avoid the guaranteed disappointment of having to end a book search prematurely I withdrew upstairs. I was not disappointed.
I was lucky enough to receive a Victrola record player for Christmas and I've enjoyed listening to the sounds of my childhood, all records that have been stored at our family home for years. The crackling vinyl gives way to familiar tunes and I realize it is a sound I have missed.
For $2 and some change I came away with two Linda Ronstadt albums, a Christmas collection and the motion picture soundtrack for Carousel, which was released in 1956. My two little sisters and me, we were cast in a hometown production of the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical in the 1980s. I have so enjoyed singing those tunes again. It was a real nice clambake, big hair and all.
