This couple were so regal, I knew the party was probably for them.

We had just exchanged a shirt for my son and skittered across the street when we heard the joyful sounds of some sort of parade heading our way.

I didn't know exactly what we were witnessing, but it was beautiful and festive so I smiled and grabbed my phone.

Later in the day, I showed my pictures to a man from India and he explained the parade was a Baraat - a groom's procession to his wedding common in Hindu and Sikh traditions. I have read about these in North India, West India and Pakistan. There was a drummer and wonderful music and I thank the wedding party for sharing with the rest of us at Avalon in Alpharetta, Ga.

I love this man's knowing glance.

My snapshots don't do this serendipity justice, but I loved seeing something new and learning about it, too.

The wedding party was splendid and photogenic.

Knowing what a global community we have on photoblog, maybe you have a Baraat experience you would like to share. I'm grateful to know more about this part of the world, and my son just finished studying India at school so this was especially timely.

Beautiful from beginning to end, even the horse had shiny hooves.
