Well, I rested enough yesterday and I was raring to go when I woke. Miles and I decided to go for a hike and experience the beauty of Montana. Today, we were going to tackle the “M”. This an “easy” trail and goes up a MOUNTAIN, to overlook Bozeman. Sure it was lovely, but when I start begging Jesús to take me ½ way up you know I have a different definition of “easy” compared to Montana.
The best part? There is a couple behind me in the trail and you can tell they’re thinking,”This is easy?” and “Holy hell, are we almost there?” So, as we’re huffing and puffing, people are running down the trail and along comes a 65+ couple. No more than 15 mins late…. up the trail they come again, RUNNING!!!!! That’s right people, RUNNING!! I was lapped 2x’s by two hot senior citizens!
Well, the other couple and I just look at each other with bewilderment, and I say, “Is this hike making me hallucinate, or did those two just pass us again?” We laughed and laughed and no longer pretended we didn’t notice the other person was also struggling and we had a light banter of mild cursing up the mountain after.
Seriously, the only reason I continued, because it didn’t feel like I could PHYSICALLY, was because I let MD go ahead in the strenuous path ahead of me. Yes, you heard me.... THE STRENUOUS PATH!!! So I thought it was important to get my son off the top of the mountain and not let him think I died along the way.
Well, as it turns out, the easy path was 2x’s as long as the strenuous path , and because I didn’t think I could be in anymore pain, I took the “short cut” up the strenuous path. At one point I started seeing dots.. and getting woozzy…. But I finally saw the “M” and heard “Mom?”
FINALLY….. down the mountain we went…
NOW, FOR THE BIG OUTTING!!!
Before I even left Chicago I booked a whitewater rafting trip for me and the kids. Of course my mom thought I was crazy and putting the kids lives in danger, but I was like…”Nah, it will be fun!!” AND IT WAS!!!!
Montana Whitewater Rafting company was awesome!! The kids and I were in our own raft, and after the instructor gave every WORST CASE SCENERIO… SCARING the crap out of my kids, we got on board!
Can you imagine trying to captain a vessel with 4 ADHD people, have them execute your orders??? POOR GUY… I tipped him well.
This trip down the river was beautiful, with a wall of pine trees and glistening water..
What was more beautiful than the scenery….MY KIDS!
They were laughing, bursting out with cheers of delight and enjoying each other. Brooks was in front with MD and they were just goofing around and enjoying each other. What a joy it was to witness this from my boys… and I’m sure restorative to Brooks’ little brother heart. He so wants to connect to MD and it bring tears to my eyes as I type, remembering the joy on his face hanging with his big brother.
After getting soaked and laughing our heads off… our ride ended and we hoped back in the bus to take us back to the base camp. Where we discovered some amazing photos waiting for us... just don’t ask what I paid to get them....
Back to Bozeman for some delish burgers and homemade ice creams and a BIG rainstorm. As the kids were expressing their sadness for missing Daddy, I told them to say a prayer. We looked up and say a double rainbow!!! It has been YEARS SINCE I SAW ONE…. I’ll take it as a sign!
