Behind you...

Did you ever get so focused on taking 'that' photo that you realized too late that 'the' photo was happening 'over there' while your attention was buried 'over here'?

I was just going through some photos and came across this mushroom photo.

Why did it stand out to me?

I took it at the zoo.

Bison...

Toad...

Zebra...

Lion...

Ape...

...

...

...

Amazing Mushroom Shot.

Sometimes the best shot is staring at your back... or looking down on your from above... or literally just inches to the left of what you've got in your viewfinder...

Effectively, somewhere that you aren't looking.

While the bride and groom are just chatting and sipping and you are taking your 34th shot of them sipping campaign, the parents of the bride may be just off frame having an amazing moment of emotion that you could frame up with the bride and groom in the background... maybe two shots - one with the parents slightly defocused and focus on bride/groom and the other with bride/groom slightly defocused and focus on parents... if you would just turn soooooooooooo slightly to the side... ooooh... oooooh... yep... keep going... one more inch... ... ... there it is!

Some of the best advice I ever received, particularly for shooting events...

Turn around.

Beautiful shot! Photography can teach us so much about the act of "looking."

I think photography has helped me and my family connect with and experience nature much more on our hikes.

For sure! My husband is always teasing me about how easily I get distracted by interesting things I see literally anywhere I go now. Sometimes I feel like I must have been walking around half asleep before. smile
