I had been up for some time but the rest of the crew had just emerged from the tent.
I heard a chirping in the weeds around the campsite and went looking for what I thought was going to maybe be a frog.
As I approached the large boulder, which had become a frequent pedestal for various wildlife during our summer visits to Site #1 at Blackwell, I noticed a bit of movement.
We locked eyes.
It was like an "I see you see me" staring contest - neither of us moved... neither of us blinked...
I raised my camera... click, click, click.
I lowered my camera and we resumed our game of "I see you see me"...
I tried to get my son's attention...
One 'psssst'...
Another 'psssst'...
A muffled 'James"!
As James responds I shift my eyes ever so slightly from the deadlock with Mr. Chipmunk...
Gone.

It was a good 45 seconds that little Mr. Chipmunk and I maintained our game of "I see you see me" - a portion of that through my 55-300 lens...
how cute is that?
He was a cutie... and brave... and I think he wanted to join us for breakfast... ;)
