New Toyz...

So my Pentax K7 was showing its age and my Pentax K3 was starting to have some odd power issues - both are up in the 100,000 clicks arena... I've been shooting a K3 MkII as well, but it was time to consider options...

Sooooooo...

Hello Full Fame!

Pentax K1 MkII - come on down!

Aaaaaaaaaand a Pentax KP... because, like cookies, you can't take just one... right?

I decided their first adventure together should be wearing the 150-450 (on the K1 MkII) and the 55-300 (on the KP)...

And, of course, day one... on my kayak rig... because why not!

In that configuration - a little kayak shooting, a little walkabout shooting...

Day 3 - time for a little macro shootout...

As they take turns trying on my sexy little 100 2.8 Macro, I head for my usual macro test ground...

Flowers... and dogs, and piano, and books... but always flowers first...

I'm finally feeling like I have the settings dialed in to where the cameras and I are pretty comfortable with one another and a good feel for how each lens in responding to the new bodies...

Next event - the Rodeo this coming weekend! Check back next week for some photos from that!
As to gear selection for the rodeo... In recognition of the low light and fast action potential of the Rodeo, the K1 MkII will be sporting the lovely and versatile 70-200 2.8 and the KP will be wearing the 'sexy little black dress' of my lens repertoire - the 100 2.8 macro.

And now, without further adieu, Photoblog and JJP Designs proudly present...

some photos from the past 3 days - Kayak days first and then macro shootout...

Enjoy!

Love your images. You are brave taking your camera out on the kayak! Lots of different images to digest but enjoyed everyone. Top quality!

Thank you! No matter how many times I take them on the water it is always a little heart pounding as I schwiggle into the kayak at launch - but once I settle in it is an amazing perspective being so low and looking out from the water rather than in from the shore...

So impressive! You have a photographic aircraft carrier going there!

anchor Anchors Away and Clickin' All The Day! I get lots of questions when I'm out from other kayakers and photographers... I'd like to be able to say it is an amazing display of engineering prowess, but it's really just a $10 solution involving a piece of trex (or some off brand of the such) with three quick releases on it and the whole thing bolted to the kayak... low tech - but is much more relaxing than the cameras banging around in the bottom of the kayak or atop an unsecured tripod wedged with my thighs (the way I use to do it before my $10 epiphany)...
