Okay, Santa... We're almost ready!

These photos are not gonna' win any photography awards, but they are a perfect representation of our Christmas...

Santa still visits our home every Christmas - and I hope he still visits yours...

Santa is that feeling in the air... the feeling that any wrong can be righted... that every bad situation will get better... that good will always prevail... and that there is a place for everyone...

One of our little symbols of that feeling of hope during the holiday season is all our rescued misfit ornaments and decorations - like the little snowman down below (I'll try to remember to photo more of them as we decorate our trees over the next two weeks)... The ones that were put together just a little bit differently or had a bit too much love handling during their tenure as part of the department store display...

When we see an ornament or other Christmas decoration that others just keep pushing aside as they grab that 'perfect one' just behind it - yeah, we buy that one... actually, we sometimes buy that one even if we weren't intending to buy one.

I don't mean to say that we just throw money away and go all 'commercialism' for the holidays... they are always small and inexpensive - and sometimes the store clerk even insists on giving us a discount for buying the one they were 'probably going to throw away' - though this happens less and less frequently as years go by.

It is just our little holiday symbol of hope for the world - our message that it is not the misfit ornament's fault that his eyes are a little different or that his shape is a bit more 'nuanced' than the others... it just means that lots of people got joy from holding him. We give him a sort of retirement at our house - and sometimes even a little back story.

So when Santa comes to our house all the little misfit ornaments and their misfit friends get to say hello and share some cookies and milk (and carrots - for the reindeer) with the big guy...

Oh, and those stockings - those are for our two dogs (rescue adoptions - the latest in a long line of rescued family members) and our bird (he was in the pet store for a bit too long as others around him kept selling because he was not 'snuggly enough' so he came home with us)... So I guess you could call them our little furry and feathered misfits - but they fit in just perfectly with the rest of our family...

The handsome young man snuggled with the beautiful young lady in the photo just beyond the stockings - my wife and son... best two gifts I've ever gotten in my entire life.

So Santa (a bit off the radar, so to speak), his flying reindeer (don't get much more unique than that), our little hodgepodge of misfit ornaments, our furry and feathered misfit family members, and each of us (yep - each a proud card carrying member of this little misfit clan - no shocker there)...

Quite the fun night as we share milk (I'm actually more of a hot cocoa man, myself) and cookies (and don't forget the carrots) and marvel at the simple joy of being unique... together.

What I wish for the world for Christmas?
That everyone find some volunteer effort they enjoy and be involved in it... some give time and talent and some give money... and I understand that not everyone can afford to give financially so if you have to choose, in my humble opinion, give time and talent - the reward is much greater for you and for everyone... actually, even if you can afford to give financially, still also always volunteer... trust me - you'll understand the first time you do it...
This little guy had a little chiropractic session just before his photo shoot - he was happy with his right arm position and felt stable as far as the tilt of his head, but he requested that his smile be visible for the photo so I had to do a little scarf/head realignment...

Our 'present tree' conveniently placed next to the fireplace for quick and easy access by the Big Guy... his cookies and milk are also right in his line of sight (though off camera) on the big night...

Oddly, I just realized none of these names have made it into our online password rotations - sorry hackers, no password hints here - better luck next time...

#3 is a beautiful capture and in my book it wins an award. In our we've always had that saying " Those who believe, receive." To this day it still holds true even though everyone is almost as old as Santa. 😃
