Focus on what's important...

I love tack sharp photos... I've had tack sharp photos I've taken that are some of my life long favorites... obviously.

BUT...

I've also had not so tack sharp photos I've taken that are some of my life long favorites.

I use to sort through photos checking focus on my first pass - now I have learned to look first for what moves my heart and my focus has naturally increased as my love of what I shoot, the story in the photo, has become the most important.

The STORY has become my FOCUS.

JAMES:

First photo - nailed focus on his eye - an absolute favorite...

Second and third photos - missed focus on his eyes - two absolute favorites...

DRAGONFLY:

First shot - Great - an absolute favorite...

Second and third photos - Grainy - two absolute favorites...

So...

I think that I have concretely identifies my style - my photographic focus, if you will...

Photo Journalistic... 1st priority - the STORY the photo tells.

Certain shoots you gotta' nail focus - paid shoots and portrait shoots... and I enjoy those shoots for the attention to detail and the technical skill that I get to tap into to pull them off successfully...

BUT... for everything else, priority one is...

Focus on the story!

Love your story and images! It is sometimes hard to discard that out of focus image for me , sometimes I don’t , I love the story more 👍

Thank you! I agree - sometimes the story is so important - and sometimes the slightly missed focus reminds you of what was happening around that moment that made you take the shot - the sudden turn and surprise as you lifted the camera and focused on the moment and missed that little technical but because you were so in the feeling of discovering that moment.
