Dinosaurs in the Fern Garden

My son has always had a little fern garden in our yard specifically because they are some of the plant species that have survived since the time of the dinosaurs...

Every spring we see what has survived the winter and then he chooses any new ferns which he then plans to augment the survivors...

We keep it fenced off during the spring and summer to protect it from the rabbits but Father Winter is a little more aggressive in his assault on plants here in the Midwest...

When it came to deciding what we were going to do for Father's day I suggested taking some of our vintage camera gear out for a nature walk (nature walks are another of his favorite things to do) and he suggested setting up dinosaur scenes in his fern garden and photographing them...

Nature & Dinosaurs + Imagination = Done Deal!

It was fun digging through the bins of toy dinosaurs and watching him setup scenes and he even took a swing at taking a photo with the newest addition to my vintage gear collection - a Kodak Retina iia...

He's 15 this year - which just proves that no matter how old they get they are still our fun, silly, imaginative, amazing little boys...

The below photos are captured with my Pentax KP wearing a vintage 50mm 1.4 - the shots from the Kodak Retina iia will take a bit to develop but I promise I will share them...

Apparently they didn't notice the telltale sign, remnants of a previous meal, which should have alerted them to the increased potential for danger...

And though I am pretty sure this new guy to the scene likely eats fish, I don't think his presence will be appreciated by the terrestrial carnivore if it ruins his element of surprise and sends his 'meal' running...
