A feather, a leaf, and a baby pine cone...

Oh, the story they had to tell... of wind and storm and of coming together...

There was the Blue Jay... loud and pushy... always screeching at the other birds... always so brave - but not on this day...

There was the Leaf... so flexible... hanging daintily from solid and stalwart tree branch... always so resilient - but not on this day...

There was the Baby Pine Cone... full of potential and eager to grow... learning from the Tree the ways of the forest... always so snug - but not on this day...

The storm came...

It blew and blustered...

The Blue Jay struggled to fly back to his nest as he struggled in wind...

The Leaf clinging with all it had as it fluttered in the wind...

The Baby Pine Cone snuggling in to keep a hold as it sways in the wind...

Then, as the Blue Jay flies just ever so slightly too close to a tree, the wind pushes him into a collision....

He grabs on to a branch... and clings, with one foot, to a leaf, and clings, with the other foot, to a baby pine cone... not noticing that the leaf and the baby pine cone, in their shock at the sudden impact, have clung to one of his feathers...

He feels a shift - ever so slight... truly just a minor shift... in the intensity of the storm... so brief... so slight... just a tiny break... but it is enough - it is his opportunity to release and make a final push...

He leaps from the branch...

The feather, now itself clinging to the leaf and the baby pine cone, remains behind...

The three of them...

Feather...

Leaf...

Baby Pine Cone...

Each feeling so alone...

Each so afraid...

They cling to one another...

But...

As one...

They feel a shift - ever so slight... truly just a minor shift... in the intensity of the storm... so brief... so slight... just a tiny break... but it is enough - and it snaps the little branch upon which they all clung...

Upon the ground...

They weather the remainder of the storm...

A leaf, a feather, and a baby pine cone...

And the little bit of branch that brought them all together...

I knew I had to take this photo the moment I saw this tiny collection - though I had no idea why...
I only knew there was a story they were trying to tell me - though I had no idea what it was.
But now I do.
And so do you.

You are quite a story teller with a great eye. Love the blue on the feather. I have many blue jay flying around here but not one has lost a feather yet. I would love to add one of those blue feathers to my collection. Well done!

Thanks! I hadn't thought about it but I guess I don't find a lot of blue Jay feathers...  they are bossy birds but pretty...  smile
