By any other... color grading?

Today has been a day of intentions and redirects...

I was going to do a specific character shoot, but plans changed...

Then I was going to do a specific video run, but plans changed...

Then this flower shoot was going to be a Behind the Scenes...

I recorded all the gear and settings... I took photos of everything setup and of each configuration as lighting moved about and I changed position... I noted which shots were taken under which configuration...
Deep Parabolic - with and without diffusion... Un-Modified Flash units as fill...
Me 'west' of flowers... Me 'east' of flowers...
70-200 2.8 @ f8, f22, f11...
Parabolic above/beside/behind flowers...
Processed in a few... um, several... many... quite a lot of... well... you'll see...

But plans changed...

Sooo...

New Plan!

Being the father of a son that loves nature, I see a lot of things about which animals can see what... the topic of which animals can see colors and how they perceive them... and that always leads to conversations about perception - even you and I don't see 'red' the same so, really, what is red?

Can dolphins see color?
Do dogs perceive color the same way we do?
What IS color, exactly? Isn't it just wavelengths of light that our eyes guess at and our brain makes up as it goes along based on how it interprets the world based on our experiences and biases!?!
OMGosh - brain overload... back to photos - STAT!

And then the fact that I absolutely love so many images in black and white - sometimes just the contrast within the image catches me before I even focus on the subject...

Sooo...

Here are some flowers (zinnias) we got from the local farm (Heap's Giant Pumpkin Farm to be specific) and I decided to photograph...

In color... With hard light...

Well, that was my first intention...

But plans changes...

These are all in the same location but with various lighting and from various perspectives...

Suffice it to say that this blog would be much longer than it already is if I detailed my entire brain and shooting process...

Sooo...

No Behind the Scenes...

Just one hope...

That you enjoy them!

Call me crazy (trust me - I'm use to it), but this one screams 'wedding card' to me... maybe it is just the silver tones.

Some very effective images here. I photograph mainly wildlife, and as many birds use camouflage to blend in with their surroundings, we see these colour palettes quite often.

Thank you! When I shoot exploratory projects like this one I tend to go "down the rabbit hole" and explore every direction I can conceive - perhaps it is my wildlife photography speaking up in my exploratory studio shoots when I explore colors like this...
