Rest In Peace

This past weekend I had to do a video shoot for work (which I'll be processing now pretty much non-stop until all week) but I also brought along my own camera to spend a little time after the official shoot because I knew there would be some great photo opportunities.

It was at a cemetery.

So you've all seen the amazing art and architecture at some cemeteries - the stone and marble work on some of the headstones and monuments are absolutely stunning.

My particular eye is drawn to those things that were likely originally amazing in their refinement and detail but have become even more unique and interesting over the years, decades, or even centuries.

This particular one caught my eye...

The original story partially obscured due to erosion...

That story now augmented by the new story of the history of the actual piece itself...

The times it has seen...

The family and friends who visited - or maybe didn't...

The sun and wind and rain...

The tears - some from sorrow and some from happy memories...

The hands that have touched it...

I can't read all of it - the words lost over time... but that in and of itself tells a part of the story of its life... of silent presence of this tireless sentry calling out to remind of us the life that came before it...
