So I did a fun little project for a friend... actually, the granddaughter of a friend...

She, the granddaughter, takes photos and makes cards and HAND MAKES ENVELOPES to go with them...

She has some really great "assorted scenic" photos that she took and put on note cards in her Etsy shop at https://www.etsy.com/shop/notifyme
AND... a portion of ALL proceeds goes to the American Red Cross!

And she just did some really cute Christmas cards that she asked me to produce for her on the production floor I manage at work... and, as I was putting the final crease in them, I started to envision some nice marketing shots of the cards - so I offered to take them...

She agreed, sent me some of her custom hand-made envelopes, and we were off to the races!

I was doing a 'candle' photo shoot today when the envelopes arrived via express mail... so I finished up the candles, swapped out black backdrop for white backdrop, and set my base exposure...

Backdrop stand at one end of table with white sheet draped over it and then run the sheet the length of the table...
Piece of plexiglass on white sheet to provide instant smooth AND nice reflections...
Strip-box with grid overhead and pointed at background to go white...
Square soft-box over cards to light them...

First shot, no ambient... check.

Second shot, dial in light to get background pushed to white... check.

Third and fourth shot, dial in strobes for desired exposure on cards... check.

Now - stack everything in some pleasant arrangement...

A few Tupperware containers, some scotch-tape...
A little balancing here and there...

Okay - now for the full-on envelope...

Where did I put that anti-gravity levitation device?

Oh, well...

HONEY! Can you give me a hand?

Literally!

Great!

Now I can Photoshop your hand out and...

Wait a minute...

...

...

Your hand looks... awesome!

New plan... keep the hand!

And take ANOTHER hand shot!

Done and done!

Didn't do a lot of post processing - cleaned up a bit and made sure 'reasonably' white but didn't obsess or really do any Photoshop (you can see the Tupperware behind the envelopes if you really look) as they are going on Etsy so going to be somewhat small images (and likely compressed during upload) in the grand scheme so the little things that will bug me likely won't be noticed... and I am pretty happy with them straight out of camera...

Oh, did I mention that a portion of ALL proceeds go to Red Cross Foundation?

So if you need any cards... https://www.etsy.com/shop/notifyme

And here they are...

Beautiful cards and envelopes! Also thank you for the "tips" about how to create a professional set like yours.

Glad you kept her hand, it makes it more personable. Very cute envelopes as well. Thanks for sharing your steps.
