Must be the week for head shots...

Mr. Marc needed a head shot for social media, linked in, and his office collaboration profiles... so square format portrait head shot to the rescue!

Pentax K1Mii wearing Sigma 28-70 2.8 - handheld...

Two Godox ad200pro stobes - one wearing a 23.6x23.6 Godox soft box (no grid) and one wearing the Godox ad200 barn doors...

Soft Box as key light - 45/45 to camera left...

ad200pro wearing the Barn Doors as backdrop light - straight up right behind him (really low to the floor pointed basically straight up and just slightly toward the back drop) and just skiffing across the surface of the backdrop to 'grey' the black backdrop juuuuuust a bit...

His hair is lighter so no fear of it getting lost in the backdrop so no need to push the 'greying' of the backdrop behind him too bright...
Oh, and one white reflector for a bit-o-fill on his left side (camera right) - held by my loving and patient wife... leaves enough shadows to define his facial features but, again, no dark areas risking being lost into the backdrop...
ISO 100, 1/200th, 70mm, f/5 for shallow D.o.F. but making sure nose to side-burns are in good focus... let the ears just go out of focus and throw that backdrop more out of focus to soften it a bit more...

Him on stool - he is tall (and I am very much NOT) so a stool is a great equalizer - gets height gifted subjects down to my level for head shots so that I do not have to go apple-crate climbing...

Post Processing - Lightroom:

A bit of face freeze fix-up - he had been out enjoying some big-boy toys in the snow and wind so some good ole' fashioned face freeze had ensued...

I always hear photographers say 'if it will be gone in a week then it should not survive post to make it into the final photo'... and I believe 'face freeze' falls in to that realm...

Made sure the teeth and eyes pop a bit...

And that's pretty much it - good pose, good smile, and good exposure & D.o.F.

Viola!
