This post is for one of those “Slice of Life” posts that i don't do that often and the fact I was dying to shoot with my new, little Lumix LX5 camera.
I got the cleaning bug today. Started in my mud room. As I was digging through the shelfs in the closet I kept turning up bag, after bag. Hmmm. As I found them, I kept flinging them out and onto the floor. I didn't realize I had this many ;)
The only one I can recall buying is the wrinkly one in the foreground. I bought that one in May of 1980 just before I moved from Anchorage Alaska. The rest just showed up in my closet, a miracle — Really. The laptop bag on the table still has a tag on it - unused. It's on eBay right now :)
The three bags on the couch are the ones I'm currently using.
The bag on the left contains my D700, and five lenses, plus all my filters, memory cards, flash, etc.
The Pelican hard case in the middle contains my medium format Mamiya 645AFD, lens, and two camera backs plus the accoutrements that go with medium format film shooting. The Pelican case is an airtight, waterproof, hard case that I can slap two TSA approved locks on it and put the camera in the luggage hold of any aircraft and (unless it's stolen) will arrive intact. It can also serve as a flotation device should the need arise. The Lowepro on the right contains the D300 and two lenses, plus additional memory cards and other stuff. This Lowepro is just for storage of the D300 and its' lenses - I never take that bag out shooting as it's too bulky and rigid.
I took all my empty bags out to the garage and hung them up out there. Some may wind up on eBay, most I'll keep cauze I'm usually swapping them out depending on where I'm going, and what I'm shooting (and I just hate to get rid of them). I was difficult enough to let go of two backpack type camera bags before the holidays; but they rarely got used so away to eBay they went. Last time I used them was out in the Southwest for hiking with the camera equipment - though I'm now in the planning stages for a photo trip in November, and I may need another camera backpack/slingback. We'll see…
