"My body doesn't look how it use to. But I'm a proud mother of a beautiful baby boy and I wouldn't change it." - Ashley
This particular shoot is a little different than my normal ones.
Ashley is a very good friend of mine and a former co-worker. Last May she finally let me talk her into doing a photo shoot that I had been dying to try. She loved the images, I loved the images, and it turns out plenty of other people loved them as well.
When Ashley told me she was pregnant I knew we needed to do a maternity shoot. Again, the images came out great.
Ashley had her son exactly one month after my wife had ours. We wanted to meet up again and take some photos of our kids together and I thought it would be a great idea to do one more shoot with Ashley and then share them here in this project.
The female body changes so much during, and after, pregnancy. It is truly amazing what it goes through to create life, but all those changes leave a mark. Unfortunately, many people are quick to point to stretch marks as flaws, and the public backlash on breastfeeding is out of control. We expect women to suddenly go back to looking the way they did before they were pregnant. We act like their new bodies are no longer good enough.
Personally, I think that those changes should be worn like badges of honor. I was there for my son's birth. I saw what my wife went through and, quite honestly, I don't know if I could have done it.
I wasn't there for Ashley's delivery of course, but I know what it entailed. She should be very proud of what she did and, personally, I think she's just as gorgeous now as she was a year ago.
