Spent an excellent weekend with friends in the Hunter Valley, just under 2 hours north of Sydney.

The Hunter is largely known for its 150 wineries, with a reputation built on Shiraz and Semillon.

The wineries have become increasingly sophisticated in targetting their markets, but you can still taste wines in many places without charge. It's a great tradition and I hope we can hang on to it.

Probably my favourite is a place called Krinklewood, a little outside the main Hunter area. It's a gorgeous property and they make great wines.

They're certified organic and bio-dynamic.I'm not sure my tastebuds can tell, but I certainly enjoy their wines.

The Hunter is still rustic and extremely pleasant.

The locals are friendly but we like to keep them on their toes. Here at the back of our accommodation.

It's also very much a tourist destination with all kinds of fun options to tempt you away from your money.

The wineries have become clever at diversifying their businesses. Here you can see a large stage for rock concerts. Acts include big names like the Rolling Stones and Bruce Springsteen.

Another balloon coming in to land.

And more.

What goes up ...

A word about the kangaroos. Yeah, I'm talking about you.

They're very cute.

But I don't envy the farmers. The 'roos are everywhere. I've never seen so many in the Hunter. Not sure what's going on.

Anyway, that was my weekend. A great time and big thanks to our friends for the company and the wonderful organising. My entire contribution was to drink wine and take photos. Thanks for indulging me!

Can't resist one more dawn balloon shot.
Really fantastic and beautiful shots ! Brilliant job, John!
