Victoria Falls

I had wanted to visit Victoria Falls since reading about it in the Guinness Book of Records over half a century ago. It didn't disappoint.

Hard not to get the camera wet trying to photograph the falls.

Whether it is indeed the world's largest waterfall is open to interpretation, regarding volume versus height versus width etc. What I can report is that at times you have to shout to be heard above the roar of water. And beyond a certain point you simply can't see anything due to the total whiteout.

There are smaller falls to the side that are huge in themselves.

The Victoria Falls Bridge crosses the Zambezi River just below the falls. Half way across the bridge is the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia.

It's a place to have your photo taken, by anyone you can find.

Some people think it's a good idea to bungee jump from the bridge towards the turbulent waters. I'm not one of them.

The bridge is a spectacular landmark in its own right.

Steam trains stop on the bridge to give tourists a great view of `the smoke that thunders'.

I do wonder how many times this guy has been photographed as he pulls into and out of Victoria Falls Station. Sorry, but the shot was irresistible.

Something thrilling just about seeing that sign.

No photograph could begin to capture the power and scale of these falls. Not to mention the incredible noise. Hey Photoblog, when will we be able to upload videos as well?

Impressive falls and a great set of photographs of the surroundings. Like the bridge, train and people you captured as well.
