Ladakh - Indus River Valley

We knew from prior reading that we were in for visual treat in Ladakh in the far north-west of India, but the stunning landscapes exceeded all expectations.

The flight into Ladakh gave a preview of what was in store. Stark high altitude landscapes unlike anything we'd encountered in our many years of travel.

The Indus River Valley was our first venture out of the Ladakh capital Leh. The landscapes were jaw-dropping.

The journey through these stark landscapes appears to be a kind of Indian rite of passage - many motorcyclists on the way. I guess something like doing Route 66 in the US.

Coming from Australia, I am quite accustomed to lonely landscape shots - but in a country of 1.4 billion people? I didn't  expect to be able to stand in the middle of the road taking shots like this.
