The small Himalayan city of Leh was our jumping off point for touring around Ladakh, but there are also plenty of interesting sights within and near the city.

Leh is the main city in Ladakh but it is very small, especially by Indian standards, more a town than a city. It sits at an altitude of 3500 metres, surrounded by desert country and overlooked by the Himalayas.

View from the palace with approaching snow clouds. On the same October afternoon we had snow, then an hour later sun warm enough to sit outside in a t-shirt.

So, there's my super quick introduction to Leh and its surrounds. There's Shanti Stupa bottom right and Namgyal Tsemo bottom left. It's a charming and unique small city in a spectacular Himalayan setting.
