Day 14: Lookin' and Cookin'

Villa Amadeus, Potsdamerstaße 91

Spotted on my way to the subway.

It's the entrance to one of the courtyards down the street. It just caught my eye. I looks so inviting with its path of green needles.
It's probably part of a Berlin phenomenon right now known as people throwing out their christmas trees. There is a pile of at least three on the curb of each street. It's pretty easy to run into them (Vorsicht! Weinachtsbaum!). I even saw a potted one sitting on the street side. I wanted to take it home.

After snapping this picture, I went to the Kurfürstendamm. Listen to this song by Hildegard Knef. [] The Kurfürstendamm is to Berlin what Fifth Avenue is to New York. As a result, it was really just a walk through the streets, cause the prices are pretty untouchable. I'll keep my Hildegard Knef and leave the actual Ku'damm to someone else.

The one thing that should have, in any case, been a safe bet is the Kaiser Wilhelm Gedächtniskirche, also located on the Ku'damm. However, the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church is currently covered in scaffolding of aluminum and plexi-glass. The church itself was left in complete rubble after World War II. As a reminder of how destructive war is, the Germans decided to clean up the rubble but leave the broken tower as is. Right now they are working to preserve the ruins. So we only got to see the inside foyer, which was beautiful but had less of an impressive-ness.

Then Margo, Emma, and I cooked dinner at Margo's: Tortellini with red sauce and salad. I managed to break a glass. Only one.
