Day 116: Navigating the Colossal Uni Wien

Stiege 10, Hauptgebäude - Staircase 10 of the Main University Building

So the building is large, impressive, and classic looking. But this is just the pretty surface of a gigantic bureaucratic system-or at least that's how I feel about it recently. Every time that I dare to enter, it creates a stressful day in order to find things and people.

There are two libraries in the building itself, along with countless other subject libraries throughout the city. It makes finding books frustrating (especially when books from certain branches need to be ordered days in advance). I ended up giving up and just using another library system.

Even getting a library card requires the Anmeldungszettel (proof from the city that we have a residence), because my student ID is obviously not good enough.

The große Lesesaal (large reading hall) is lined with books and looks like Hogwarts, but it fits at least 150 students at one time, all in neatly lined rows. It's somehow too much for me.

After a while, the gigantic system and the number of hoops to jump through gets annoying. I just want a library card and to be able to take the books off the shelves myself. Is that too much to ask, Uni Wien?
