​Little did Johann Gottfried Zinn(1727–59) know that when he classified and then named the Zinnia after himself how far and wide this member of the sun flower and daisy family would reach.​ From the Midwestern plains through Mexico, Central and then far reaching into South America, a variety of Zinnias can be found blooming at all times of the year.​
