What had happened was...

I was out on the front porch at 5:45am, during another of our all-too-frequent spring "earsplittenloudenboomer" thunderstorms, trying to catch some lightening strikes for the slow shutter speed challenge. No such luck - the bolts were so strong and so close it was like a police floodlight on a backdoor burglar (not that I would no what that is like). So, I'm getting ready to shoot and "Wham!" right between the eyes I get a dime sized hail stone. And then the heavens opened, and I ran like a scalded dog. Got soaked. Gotta get me one of them rear curtain thangs - much safer. Maybe they got 'em at Walmart?

I wasn't completely exposed - had a little overhang there. But if it was cloud-to-ground, no way I'm going out. I may be slow, but I ain't stupid!

They all stopped telling me when I was 13 - I was hopeless, even then. Thanks for the tip - it'll come in handy!

Back in '73, the boat I was in got hit in the engine - close enough for me. Never again!
