Day 183: Asahi Pentax Spotmatic II

by John Nelson July. 02, 2010 2757 views

For my hopefully-near-future media & photography room in a new house, I've been collecting older camera and video equipment to use as decor. My mother-in-law found some old cameras [photoblog.com] in her house, and recently, my Dad [photoblog.com] gave me his 1971 Asahi Pentax Spotmatic II to add to that collection. It's beautiful! I'm considering taking it to a camera shop to see if they can get it working again. If not, it will make an excellent focus point in the camera collection.

Thanks Dad! It's a treasure for sure!

It should work just fine. The battery is for the internal light metering system, and if it's not working or replaceable, then you could use a separate light meter to determine the shutter speed and aperature settings. I know that probably sounds like cave man stuff, but it's how we used to do it, and it still works!
