Day 196: Monterey, CA (Fisherman's Wharf)

While not THE Fisherman's Wharf [] in San Fransisco, Monterey's wharf is a fantastic place. Tons of seafood restaurants, markets, and whale-watching tours. Along the rocky shoreline, hundreds of sea lions and seals bask in the sun and play in the water. While the stink to high heaven, they're super cute and fun to watch. They're so clumsy on land, it's comical to watch them come out of the water, clamber around looking for a spot to lie down, and then actually lying down. We spent almost an hour just observing these funny guys.

Sailboats at the wharf. Every time I see boats, my mind also envisions “vintage”. So I went for a vintage PP effect.

A sea lion asleep along the wharf's shoreline.

This guy on the right went around bothering all the other sleeping, comfortable sea lions. Here, he's arguing with a recently bothered sea lion.

This sea otter floats on its back trying to open a crab shell for dinner. Interestingly enough, I ate abalone for dinner, the shelled animal that otters usually eat.

#1 is classic! Love it! I feel like the sea lion in #2. It's been so hot I'm wilting!

And you look a little like an otter, too! Cool captures, John! Love the sepia (?) effect with the boats.
