Day 297: Turkey Vultures

by John Nelson October. 24, 2010 2667 views

Turkey Vultures [en.wikipedia.org] are easily the ugliest bird in the sky. But when they fly, they are very cool looking. They have massive wing spans of 3-5 feet.

For some reason, I've always wanted a picture of one. Scott and I found a tree full of them roosting and preening while out photographing landscapes. I can now check them off my list of things to photograph.

I'd love to say these look better enlarged, but do so at your own risk: they are super ugly birds.

This one is my favorite…2 in flight and the sharpest focus of the series.

They're ugly on the ground, but they're magnificent in the sky! These are great photos, John. I posted one in our backyard on Sept 3 - couldn't believe it was right there!!!
