Day 312: Kids Photo Adventure

by John Nelson November. 08, 2010 3792 views

My oldest daughter has an art contest at school. She chose photography as her art medium, and asked if we could go on my famed “Photo Adventures”. So I took her and my youngest to the University campus, geared them both up with cameras (Point & Shoots), and we hunted down dozens of shots. It was a blast! They had the greatest time, and I loved helping, suggesting, and modeling.

The first few shots are mine, then Emma's (7 years old), & finally Brooklyn's (4 years old). The perspective of a child through a camera is amazing. If you have kids, give them a camera and be amazed (& dumbfounded) at what they photograph.

Emma will probably be submitting her shot of the awesome yellow tree for the competition.

Photo: Mine. Shot at f/32 just to see what kind of sunburst I could get. Love it!

Photo: Mine. Loved the spray of the water off the fountain.

Photo: Mine. I was showing the girls what perspective meant by laying on the ground and shooting an object. They spent the next 10 minutes crawling on their bellies everywhere.

Photo: Mine. Model shot of Brooklyn, who thought this would be a good pose and asked me to photograph her.

Photo: Mine. The girls stopped every dog they saw to photograph them. This big guy got a closeup of his nose from Emma's camera.

Photo: Emma's. This will be the shot she probably submits for her competition. She saw the tree and squealed with delight. She took this without help, advice, or input from me. Cool shot, huh?

Photo: Emma's. (Editing interpretation, Mine). Brooklyn posed for a shot along the steps of the University library.

Photo: Emma's. A self-portrait. Unedited.

Photo: Emma's. Another self-portrait, but much more artsy.

Photo: Brooklyn's. I'm calling this an accident, but I love the shot! She was trying to photograph the names on the walkway. She got Emma's torso at a neat perspective instead.

Photo: Brooklyn's. Between blurry shots & self-portraits, there wasn't much else she was concerned with today. :)

These are so great, John! Your shots are exquisite, but the girls did good, too! I think Em's photo in #7 is the best of the set! Very cool shot! (I have to save a whole bunch of these to my faves!)
