Day 1: Sedona's Oak Creek & Cathedral Rock

My Dad [] and I went on a Father-Son photography adventure to Sedona & Grand Canyon for a few days.

After flying into Phoenix, we drove over to Sedona. Around sunset, we went to Oak Creek below Cathedral Rock [] and shot reflections. It was an amazingly beautiful location, with brilliant colors during sunset.

The old mill barn with Cathedral Rock in the background.

Cathedral Rock near sunset, reflected in Oak Creek. I liked the small rocks that break up the reflection.

An attempt at a black & white conversion of the previous shot. It loses it's impact, but I dig the variations of gray.

Cathedral Rock & Oak Creek, from the middle of Oak Creek. I ruined a ton of people's shots by wading up the middle of the creek for this shot. I wanted to be by those rocks upstream, but the water was too deep.

Small cascades in the red rocks of Oak Creek with Cathedral Rock burning in the setting sun. While the lighting looks odd, that's the drastic brightness level differences that were there.

The last light of day on Cathedral Rock. When the sun sets on the red rocks around Sedona, they light up a crazy red & orange color. It's stunning.

Love the grass framing in #3 and the placement of the rocks in the water. Really good set, John!
