On Camelback

What I had envisioned for our camel safari based on how it is advertised everywhere was a glorious sunset with camels thrown into silhouettes against the sun (i.e. gorgeous pictures) and sleeping underneath a sparkling and starry night sky.

Well, that didn’t happen!

We had pouring rain throughout both evenings and nights spent in the desert and even got to live through a pleasant sand storm (sense the tone here, please).

Despite the weather setbacks, the three days in the desert were an experience I thoroughly enjoyed; the peace and quiet was exceptional and the food our guides, Taga and Kalu, cooked fresh with every meal was mouth-wateringly delicious. Furthermore, with the constantly changing weather, the light was different every hour playing with the colours and atmosphere.

Well Julia, your adventure just keeps getting more interesting. Fabulous photos and what a great experience. I've always wanted to ride a camel in the desert and sleep in a Bedouin tent but I'm not sure it will happen. I will be satisfied with getting as close to the real experience by following this blog - it is always worth the time to check out what you're up to.grinning

Thanks, Greg. Lovely to hear that you are enjoying following our journey as much. smile
I do hope you get to ride a camel and spend the night in a Bedouin tent at some point, if that’s what you would like to experience!

Pouring rain in the desert ... Should be a unique experience in itself, no ? smile

It sure was. At the same time I hope our luck for “unique” weather does not continue;
“It never rains this time of year” in Bardia, Nepal
“The heaviest snowfall this time of year in twelve years” in the Himalayas
“You were REALLY unlucky with the weather” in Jaisalmer
At the same time it means you get to come back and experience it completely differently in different and “regular” weather conditions. smile

Well, as long as you don't let the weather obscure your feelings, it's not REALLY a big deal smile

Leider macht matt keine Fotos.
