Whoever said that probably never had to make a treasure chest birthday cake. I had made and finished a very cool looking cake and let it sit out for the night when I went to bed. When I got up a 5:30 to walk, I discovered that the lid had completely fallen backwards onto the table. I spent some time trying to salvage those peices, but eventually had to scrap it down to the base and begin again. I eventually got it and I'm happy with the results. Now, if only it will stay together until they can eat it.
Thanks to Scott and Karen for their suggestions and moral support. Karen, I did use the cardboard suggestion and it did make a difference ….. but I had to put the dowell rods up the back to keep the lid to stay on. Anyway, I'm happy with the results. I hope the birthday boys are too.

I wish I would have taken a picture before I went to bed, but I was waiting until morning after I put on the final touches. But, this is what I discovered when I got up.

This is the disaster that I was finally forced to face.

All better now.

Please just let me get it to their house ………
