Clingmans Dome and Andrews Bald

Saturday we hiked to highest point in the Smoky Mountains - Clingmans Dome and then ventured on to hike to Andrews Bald. Sounds simple enough.

The climb up to Clingmans Dome was a very steep and breath-taking adventure. We made it though and while the view was foggy, it was nice. The trees there are in danger though and many are dying - causing the view to not be as pretty as one would expect.

Hiking to Andrews Bald turned out to be a rather difficult hike - very rocky and treacherous. We had to watch every step. 1.8 miles one way didn't seem like it would be hard …..

Nice stick Kenny! On our way to Clingmans Dome

One step on the Appalachian Trail

The Dome itself

Heading into “hell” …. aka …. the trail to Andrew's Bald. Seems pretty mild just now.

ah yes, the going gets a bit more rugged

A view of the trail, beautiful but rugged.

Once we were aways back in, we were treated to these “balance beams”

Over an hour in on a 1.8 mile hike and we STILL have .7 miles to go ….

We made it! And it was so worth it! It was beautiful, very peaceful and just the four of us with the mountains.
