South of St. James Feb 24 ~ 55 of 365

As it was raining CATS & DOGS today we were stuck in the house so I took a trip through my archives:

Meramec Springs Trout Park located south of St. James Missouri. Maramec Spring Park contains 1,860 acres of forest and fields.
The second full weekend in October is “OLD IRON WORKS DAYS”. This two day event is attended by thousands. Over fifty crafters demonstrate crafts used in the 1800's.
The Missouri Department of Conservation raises thousands of trout in the fish rearing pools located near the head of the Spring. Small fish are hatched at other state hatcheries, transported to Maramec Spring and placed into the rearing pools. The fish are fed 3 times each day. They will grow almost an inch each month in the cool spring waters.
Meramec Springs offers CATCH AND KEEP SEASON (MARCH 1- OCT. 31).
The Spring Branch Trail is a little over 1.5 miles in length. The Trail enables you to walk around the Spring and the Spring Branch. A short self guided driving tour trail will help you to better enjoy and understand the history of the Maramec Iron Mine. This open pit mine was the source of most of the iron ore that was used at the Iron Works in the 1800's. This trail is located along the Historic Drive at the west end of the Park.

I capture many of my animal photographs on these grounds.

The water is actually warmer than the air…..

It was drizzling rain this day….
Water Temperature: 56 degrees F
Air Temperature: 13 degrees with a wind chill of -10
Chilly is not the word I think he would use!

Looking up toward the spring from the parking lot…

The old mill house. Use to have a waterwheel attached years and years and years ago.

Looking up one side of the trace from the spring….the movement in the water is very large trout that you can feed and they will swarm~it is a blast to watch yet almost impossible to photograph :(

This tree refuses to give in to the flood waters that attempt to move it and steal its life….it simply reaches back with longer branches and holds on tighter to the ground..

One of the waterfalls….

This old fellow gave up the ghost and fell this past fall….it will be cut up for firewood by park managment and staff

The waterfall from the spring to the part of the river between the two trout hatcherys

Another of the bridge atop the waterfall….that is my sweater not my thumb…LOL The man in the picture is my youngest son and the dog is my Hercules!

Standing atop the bridge looking at the water below….gives the illusion of height, but you are only about 3 feet off the water.

The west side of the river running from the spring, runs under the bridge making the beautiful falls. The building in the back ground is the Museum, telling the story of the people who started mining this area for ore.

The bluff running behind the spring, the water fall in front of the spring. The daily temperature of the Spring water is 56 degrees fahrenheit. It is estimated that the Spring flows an average of 100 million gallons of water each day.

A different angle of the waterfall

Yet again another Angle of the waterfall

Glad you added the captions! Sure wish I could have seen the mill house when the water wheel was still there.
