Hey there! There's a cute town called Maiori and it's on the Amalfi coast. Never heard of it? Well that explains why it wasn't swarming with tourists!
Before travelling to Italy, we always imagine a town with brightly coloured shutters, a macelleria, a fruit and vegetable shop, pescheria stalls, shop vendors, the air perfumed with freshly baked bread, locals mingling - well that's Maiori !
I feel Maori reminds us of any semblances of a southern Italian town. I come to Maiori to escape and to maintain sanity. There are just so many tourists one can take!
Not that there's something to do in Maori.
As people always ask me all the time
" What is there to do? What would you suggest" my anticlimactic response is:
" Do absolutely NOTHING!" ( this is when you all unfollow me and go to Tripadvisor instead! Lol)
My greatest advice for exploring places such as Maiori is this:
Be silent. Be still. Watch and observe the world that surrounds you. Do this all at a nice pace.
Our lives are so fast paced that we don't have time to appreciate where we are and soak in another culture that is unknown to us. feel Maiori reminds us of any semblances of a southern Italian town. I come to Maiori to escape and to maintain sanity. There are just so many tourists one can take!
How would you not hear the nonnas conversation who debate having spaghetti bolognese with cheese is sacrificial. Which tastes better? (Comment your favourite!) Or the nonnos who complain about their wives?
Or the romantic love triangle that occurs on market days ( Friday). Between the young fruit stallion who is madly in love with the girl who had the spice store who's boyfriend is the salami vendor. Seems to me she has to spice things up a bit!!
All puns aside I do like Maiori.
A beautiful stroll down the flat promenade is very enjoyable and it's the only practical place on the coast where children can learn to ride heir bicycles or go roller skating. A lovely passagianta with your fidanzata or a smooth ride for babies in prams who are used to the cobble stoned streets. I can recommend anyone staying in a self contained place such as an apartment, to do your shopping in Maiori. It's half the price of everywhere else, exactly the same things, shopping for food is inexpensive here.
So, please don't disregard Maiori. She has feelings and I am very loyal to her.
