{growing our future}

When I began my week dreaming about the weekly theme, I was unsure what I wanted to document to express the heart of our family.  I knew I could count on  many interesting things to happen on our little farm this week.  We have had 27 guests, shared multiple meals with others, delivered goat kids, got a load of hay, prepared lots of meals together, went on home school field trips, had numerous quiet precious memories, and witnessed beautiful moments in nature. So, at the conclusion of all this weeks happenings, I have chose to share our seed planting with you.

Raising our own food is an activity that we choose to spend a lot of our time on. Every day each member of our family has a hand in some aspect of raising our future food. We raise our own beef, chicken, pork, rabbit, milk, eggs, fruit and veggies.  Time in our garden is enchanting.  This week we started many of the seedlings needed for this year.

The children and I had long talks this week about sneaking away to the garden to snack on peas and other treats. We talked about tall sunflowers and little worms, about canning and cooking.

I can not think of anything that brings us together more than raising, preparing and sharing the food we grow!

This was my children's great-grandfather's lunch box, that he took with him everyday while working on the railroad. It now holds all our seeds.

These pictures are really nice. Even better is teaching children important things like how to plant their own food, that's so great of you to do something like this with your kids :)
