Five years ago I had the great privilege of being able to visit the apartheid museum in Johannesburg. What I was struck by was not the horror of what white men did to their black brothers, but the dignity with which South Africa have come to terms with that dark period of their history. 

If you ever get the chance to go, do so.

This is difficult to imagine. I just saw the movie "Hidden Figures" about African-American women mathematicians who worked at NASA and saw evidence of this.
