Forever Autumn (with a tip of a hat to Jeff Waynes version of War of the Worlds)

Now … for those of you who don't know this version of “War of the Worlds” (and I'm not talking about Crusie's or the other 60's version), its a book by H G Wells, and tell the story of a journalist caught in the middle of extraordinary events taking place around him (namely the Martian invasion of earth).

The segment I'm going to look at in detail is called Forever Autumn. Sung by the Moody Blues singer, It tells of the journalist's emotions for the one he has lost. During the song, it builds up with the Martians attacking, and the journalist runs for his life, past two of my old stomping grounds of Chelmsford (my home town) and Harwich (a place where I spent of lot of time when I was young). As the journalist reaches the boat, he stares into the eyes of his lover, who is pulled away from him as the boat pulls out of the dock.

Its sad… but it gave me an idea… Explore the autumn around me and take some photos of it. Luckily, even though living in a city, I've found a few parks around the 3 mile central Birmingham area.

So after a bit of processing, sorting and moaning at the computer, here are some pictures from my Forever Autumn.

Lyrics now follow, with picture references as i fit them in.

The summer sun is fading as the year grows old,
and darker days are drawing near,
the winter winds will be much colder,
now you're not here.

*annoying musical twiddly bit*

I watch the birds fly south across the autumn sky
and one by one they disappear
I wish that I was flying with them,
now you're not here

like the sun through the trees you came to love me
like a leaf on a breeze you blew away

through autumn's golden gown we used to kick our way
you always loved this time of year
loose fallen leaves lie undisturbed now
cos you're not here

*major middle bit where the journalist has to run for his life*

like the sun through the trees you came to love me
like a leaf on a breeze you blew away

a gentle rain falls softly on my weary eyes
as if to hide a lonely tear
my life will be forever autumn
cos you're not here …………
