Weekly Theme - Long Exposure

by Kevin Wenning February. 19, 2019 195 views

My submission for the weekly theme of long exposure. I just found out about these in the forum so I'll start trying to pay attention there. If you're not familiar, check them out for ideas of challenges to photograph each week along with examples and tips for making the shots.

It took me a few tries to time the shutter with the traffic, but this is only one exposure - 15 seconds at f8 and 320 iso.

The car entering the other end of the tunnel at just the right moment to add that white light at the far end was just pure luck.

I picked this spot to do the light trails because it's different for me. I'm usually trying to shoot a landscape where the trails are just an element of the frame instead of the main subject. I like the way they take over this frame and get your attention.

Great shot, and glad to see you joining in for the weekly challenges! smile It's fun trying something new each week.
Love the leading line, and what nice stone detail in the tunnel - I tried some traffic light trails tonight and it was quite a challenge, so I admire this all the more!

The timing is always different depending on the speed of the cars and how many of them there are, and even how many lights there are on the street. It's never one of those things where I can just dial my camera to a setting and press the shutter. I wouldn't say I'm good at long exposures, but it's something I like to practice when I've got time to set up and consider a scene.
