Non-Firefighter Tax

So I got this mail from my town administration in Switzerland with a bill asking me to pay 50 Swiss Francs as a “Taxe non-pompier” or “Non-Fireman Tax”.

I asked what it was, turns out it's a tax I have to pay for not being a firefighter. As if people here are born firefighters and then if they grow up to become something else, they pay a tax.

My only fear now is that I'll start getting letters once a week asking me to pay a tax for not being a doctor, or for not being a lawyer, or for not being a member of parliament… You get the idea…

maybe you're a firefighter without knowing it...

But I'm not too sure about your "ripping off foreigners" theory... The swiss authorities don't really need to use covert tactics to rip off foreigners, cause I also have to pay 18 fr. every month just because I'm a foreigner.

this is hilarious! i live in switzerland for 23 years now and i've never been asked for a no fire fighter tax! this smells very funny... and increases my suspicion that the swiss authorities are trying to rip off foreigners JUST LIKE ANY OTHER CORRUPT BANANA REPUBLIC!

welcome to the reality of money, my friend! :-)
