All lyrics are by Keane. They express how I felt today as I walked through the park. My part of Wisconsin is very flat but there are mounds on the landscape. This is where the glaciers came through and pushed up great mounds of rock and soil. The Native Americans revered them and told their children about the great thunderbirds which flew around them. Petroglyphs of Thunderbird claws are chiseled on the rocks. It is a beautiful and haunting place.
I walked across an empty land,
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand. I felt the earth beneath my feet.
The motion keeps my heart running.
Though I know I said I'd wait around till you need me, but I have to go.
I hate to let you down. But I can't stop now, I've got troubles of my own. Cause I'm short on time. I'm lonely and I'm too tired to talk…
Something in me was dying and my heart was heavy as stone.
Hard as i was trying, I never could find my way home.
Where is the life you once had?
And still this hollow feeling grows and grows.
On a day like today
I looked at you and I saw something in the way. You stared into the sky, I saw you were sick and tired of my wrong turns. If you only knew the way I feel. I'd really love to tell you.
Well it's a lonely road that you have chosen.
Morning comes and you don't want to know me anymore. And it's a long time since your heart was frozen.
I came across a fallen tree,
I felt the branches looking at me. Is this the place we used to love? Is this the place that I've been dreaming of?
If only I don't bend and break,
I'll meet you on the other side, I'll meet you in the light.
Sat by the river and it made me complete.
Oh, simple thing, where have you gone? I'm getting old and I need something to rely on. So tell me when you're gonna let me in, I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin.
There's a cold voice on the air.
You've been looking everywhere for someone to understand your hopes and fears. Well, I've thought about that for many long years.
You'll follow me back
with the sun in your eyes. And on your own bed shaped and legs of stone. You'll knock on my door, and up we'll go in white light.
