Energy and Matter: The Poetry of Science

by Kim November. 19, 2007 4252 views

“After a certain high level of technical skill is achieved, science and art tend to coalesce in esthetics, plasticity, and form. The greatest scientists are always artists as well.”
~Albert Einstein~

Astronomy compels the soul to look upwards and leads us from this world to another." — Plato.

1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34. . . Look carefully. Do you see the pattern? Each number above is the sum of the two numbers before it. Though most of us are unfamiliar with it, this numerical series, called the Fibonacci sequence, is part of a code that can be found everywhere in nature. Count the petals on a flower or the peas in a peapod. The numbers are all part of the Fibonacci sequence or "The Golden Proportion."

"Man - despite his artistic pretensions, his sophistication, and his many accomplishments - owes his existence to a six inch layer of topsoil and the fact that it rains."
Unknown author

"I want to know how God created this world. I am not interested in this or that phenomenon, in the spectrum of this or that element. I want to know His thoughts; the rest are details."

~Albert Einstein~

"Fifty-five crystal spheres geared to God's crankshaft is my idea of a satisfying universe. I can't think of anything more trivial than quarks, quasars, big bangs and black holes." — Tom Stoppard

The aim of every artist is to arrest motion, which is life, by artificial means and hold it fixed so that a hundred years later, when a stranger looks at it, it moves again since it is life.
William Faulkner

"When we try to pick out anything by itself, we find it is tied to everything else in the universe."

-~John Muir~

“There is no death. Only a change of worlds.” - Chief Seattle , Suquamish Chief

Throughout space there is energy. Is this energy static or kinetic? If static our hopes are in vain; if kinetic — and this we know it is, for certain — then it is a mere question of time when men will succeed in attaching their machinery to the very wheelwork of nature.

~Nicola Tesla~

"The deepest things in my life came to me in the form of poetry, and I brooded upon every circumstance in its uprising that I might discover its ancestral fountain." –Albert Einstein

Even matter called inorganic, believed to be dead, responds to irritants and gives unmistakable evidence of a living principle within. Everything that exists, organic or inorganic, animated or inert, is susceptible to stimulus from the outside.
~Nikola Tesla~

Each flower is a soul opening out to nature.
~Gerard De Nerval~

"Man is equally incapable of seeing the nothingness from which he emerges and the infinity in which he is engulfed."
~Blaise Pascal~

Human beings, vegetables or cosmic dust, we all dance to a mysterious tune, intoned in the distance."

So many really good shots here! An eclectic series to say the least

I'm being blown away by these fantastic quotes ...plus you are straining the brain recalling things like the "fibonacci sequence"
