Day 39: Souvenirs

Three years ago my Dad went back to South Africa for business related matters. At the airport in South Africa he bought six enamel cups for us. Today I noticed them (after three years I got use to them being around), and saw their potential in this weeks theme. I set them up on my brother's blue desk and put a piece of cardboard behind them.

My lighting approach today was DIY. I mentioned it in Day 37: Cactus Bloom, but what I did today was a bit different. Instead of paper I used tinfoil. It is a lot more effective. With tinfoil I got nearly all the light from my pop up flash reflected onto the ceiling. I set my flash to 1/2 power.

An orange chidrens cup, with a picture of a tree and a snake hanging out of it on it. The cup is on a blue desk.

Each cup was handmade by someone in South Africa

The cups are showing a bit of wear!

This is my favourite cup

These are the most useful souvenirs that have!

The pictures on the cups are very abstract!

I think it is a very creative way to employ the unemployed, making souvenirs for the airports!

To make the photos more pleasing, I used my 50mm f/1.8 to create a shallow DOF.

Today I edited the photos in Photoshop, and to add a bit of colour I used the Color Efex Pro plugin. After that I used Sharpener Pro to sharpen it.

Complementary colours can really help the composition of your photos.
