For about 1 year now I have been a volunteer at Riding for the Disabled in Kaitaia. It has been a very good learning experience and a lot of fun too. I get to work with very friendly and well behaved (most of the time) horses and ponies. It is a very rewarding thing to put your time into. I lead the horses around in the arena and outside while making light conversation with the riders. Riding horses and ponies at RDA helps young children with motor and mental disabilities develop self esteem, co-ordination and confidence in themselves. Here is their website for more information on what they do: RDA UK and RDA New Zealand.

Note: I have not taken any photos of the horses in action because I have to get permission from the parents of each child that is riding. I have not got there yet!

Horses tied up with halters in a stall

Kea, my favourite pony. She is a very reliable pony

Four horse legs standing on concrete

Contrasting shadows of planks and shadows of horse legs

I like the shadows in this photo

A sideon portrait of a horse's face. It is in Black and white. there is a wood background behind him

This is Bullet, the youngest of our ponies

Photographed with my Nikon D5300 and 50mm f/1.8 lens.

Edited in Photoshop, Color Efex Pro, Silver Efex Pro and Camera Raw.

If you are near a RDA group, go check them out and help them. They will always appreciate it. And it is fun too!
