The weather was very grey when I took this photo. That was a good thing though!
I suppose you know what a softbox is, so the following will make sense to you. When the sky is full of clouds, like it was when I took the photo, it acts as a huge softbox. The clouds diffuse the sunlight and then delivers a very soft and even light. This is very good light for capturing detail and textures (It is also good for portraits).
When I took the photo I did not purposely compose it to a composition rule. In Photoshop I cropped it to the Golden Ration (similar to Rule of Thirds) with the lower right intersection on the pink part of the Hibiscus.
