07.26.13 continues - Big Sur

John planned out our trip such that we could drive along highway 1 to see Big Sur on the way from Hearst to Monterey. Highway 1 is that road you see in the movies that runs riiiiight along the coast, which makes for a somewhat nervous north to south drive, so we drove it south to north instead. However, we were still a little frightened at some twists and turns but were comforted by some absolutely stunning views. At first we were stopping to get out of the car at every vista, snapping away from every angle. We realized maybe another hour later that the whole thing was beautiful, pictures wouldn't do it justice, and to just drink it in. We still stopped about a dozen times, and these are some of our favorites.

One of the early stops was to see these stinky, fat, elephant seals. They naturally conglomerate at this particular spot along the coast that we happened to be driving by. These fat, lazy seals are not dead, they just appear (and smell) that way. Really, they're just sunning themselves and occasionally fighting other seals with their ugly snouts or roaring, which sounded more like burping to me. Pretty cool though.

Fun day, but we were still not yet to Monterey…
