The Fire Trial on UC Berkeley's campus looks a little something like this:

Slow, mountain climb, but with a rewarding vista near the top and some forgiving, dirt/gravel trail. It's a short jaunt from John's building, therefore we do this run often, or I can do this run easily on his off days because it's easy to locate and not get lost on. The first few times we did this run I didn't bring my camera or it was foggy, but on this day (which was actually Monday the 5th) I brought my camera and enjoyed a largely fog-free afternoon on the run.

The view from “the bench” is to the west of downtown Berkeley and on a good day you can even see San Francisco and the Golden Gate (you won't see them in these pictures, however). It's a spectacular view your legs pay for on the trip up (and down), but worth it. On the way down I chose to bypass “the connector” (steepest hill I've ever attempted) to run through the base of some young redwoods. All in all, a wonderful feature at UC Berkeley more should probably take advantage of.

Interestingly, on this actual day John and I decided against the Fire Trail for our long run and instead ran through several cities along the bay before actually running by the water on a bayside trail.

We did our 14 (ish), biked to Dona Tomas for fabulous Mexican brunch, rested a little before a superb dinner out with several of John's colleagues (Morris, Daniela, Jack, and Bonnie) at Aganta for the best Indian cuisine in Berkeley. That makes some of the best Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Mexican, and Mediterranean food that I've had, all here.
