An Example of Low Key Portrait Done in Existing Light

In my recent blog Low Key Photography-Modifying Existing Light in Your Camera

I used Blue Jays as models to show how Low Key Portraits can be done in existing light by using your camera settings. I found this old portrait of my Peruvian colt taken in harsh sunlight with soft focus. He is stepping out of the barn door into harsh sunlight. If I had not used spot metering to create this low key portrait, you would see the lit up background inside the barn. Many enjoyed the above article, so I thought they might enjoy seeing the effects you can achieve on subjects besides Blue Jays.

Thank you Camellia!
I love them too! I posted some cat ones for examples to my Low Key Lighting article too.
I can't wait to do more, I lost most of my good ones on my external hard drive. Live and learn!

Just beautiful! It makes the white on his face stand out just perfectly, and I love that you can see the one foreleg.
