Timber Frame Sugar Shack Nestled in Snow Awaits This Seasons Maple Sap Run

Nestled in the woods is this gorgeous hand milled/built Timber Frame Sugar Shack, belonging to my daughter's family. My son-in-law, a very talented craftsman, who is passionate about traditional skills, meticulously hand crafted this beautiful work of art.

He felled the trees and processed them into lumber, gathered the native sandstone and painstakingly placed each stone to form a dry stacked foundation, drew up the plans and cut each intricate joint to fit. Every piece placed in perfection.

One cannot imagine the skill, hard work, and time a "labor of love" like this requires.

Inside this beautiful building is where the real craftsmanship shows, I stand in awe gaping at the incredible detailed joinery, the simplistic yet technical design and the wonder of seeing someone's vision materialized into reality.

This building houses an amazing stainless steel-wood fired-maple sap evaporator operated each spring by the family, to produce high grade pure maple syrup.

They are currently working on building a website, and I am delighted and honored that they requested that I take pictures for them.

I will be following them through this springs sapping season, and hope to share some of the highlights with you.

Part 2 showing the interior joinery details and maple syrup evaporator can be found here.

The sugar shack looks amazing.  We are actually looking to bring back to life an old sugar shack that is deteriorating and stumbled along your photos.  Would you ever consider making your design available?  I would love to try and replicate this amazing piece on our property.  All the best!

I'm attending a creative writing class.
Exercise 1 asks to describe a place you would live in.
I immediately remembered this amazing place, and now I'm describing it. (In my mind is a chalet)
Thank you for your posts full of details. blue heart

I can remember when it was just a pile of logs and sandstone - it turned out more beautifully than imagined! Can't wait to see the pics of the inside and the maple syrupping in process! You have an extremely talented family!

I cannot believe something so beautiful really exists. It looks like a fairy tale chalet.
I'd LOVE to see the interior one day.
