I really like the second shot, and am trying to think who this character could be - a hero, killing a serpent with a spear. Its obviously been touched many times for good luck. I just checked in Wikipeadia, and it was Apollo who killed the dragon/python at Delphi.

Well, if you're a patent lawyer, there's reason to be happy, but the French recall his son-in-law (Henri IV) with more reverence.
