On the Move is a photo series that showcases unforgettable places I've visited.

Waves crashed along the Algarve coastline early one morning.
These images were taken while I explored the surrounding area of Carrapateira, a sleepy Portuguese village near the Algarve region of Portugal. The village is mostly known for hosting vagabond surfers and European hikers due to the consistent swell and variety of trails that run through the protected area.

I stayed in a small hostel, called Hostel do Mar, which was located in the center of town and run by really lovely people. It was the perfect place to call home for 4 days as it was right off the main coastal highway and also a short hike to two different beaches.

There was so much to do in the area. My days were typically filled with hiking and cycling the trails around the hostel, or hitch hiking to adjacent coastal towns to surf. Acclimating to the slow moving schedules of the locals took a little time, but I got used to the market opening up at 1pm and closing at 4pm. It was worth the wait though since the fresh bread and locally grown fruits were inexpensive and really tasty.

For the first few days I didn’t take many photos. I took my time exploring the area and seeing what it had to offer. It was a very new approach compared to my other trips, and it felt great to not rush anything. I took mental notes of any specific locations I wanted to revisit later, and I ended up leaving very satisfied with a handful of curated images that I’ll never forget.
